Job Description

MAHASKA COUNTY TREASURER’S Office is taking applications for a seasonal part-time clerical position to work in the Tax Department.  Exceptional customer service skills, proficient money handling skills as well as 10-key operation and ability to alphabetize and file required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and ability to be on your feet for long periods of the day. Must be dependable and have excellent communication skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required or assigned.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

Assist with and/or maintain daily sales and financial accountability.  Ensure all collections are accounted for and safeguarded with checks endorsed. Assist with customer inquiries and provide direction either oral or written.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent is required.  Working knowledge of office machines and computer data entry. Ability to work with the public under stressful situations and maintain professionalism. Ability to work independently, and as a team.  Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written are essential.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL & MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Standing at counter and frequent walking is required.

MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

Proficient in basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication).  Able to count money and make correct change.  

LANGUAGE ABILITY & INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION

Able to maintain composure and interact positively with the public under stressful, interruptive situations in both direct contact and phone answering tasks. 

Maintain and respect customer confidentiality.  Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation.  Ability to write legibly and compose letters and emails professionally.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

Fast-paced office setting with varying customer flow.  Some light lifting may be required along with sitting, standing, and moving about the office.  Headaches, eyestrain, carpal tunnel, and related occupational hazards associated with data entry work would reflect most common injury.   

Job Hours

Normal working hours are 8:00AM - 4:30PM Monday through Friday.
