Auditor's Real Estate Deputy Position available
The Mahaska County Auditor's office is accepting applications for a full time Real Estate Deputy. Minimum knowledge/skills required but not limited to: Experience and/or formal training in processing legal descriptions/transferring deeds. Candidate must be highly accurate, possess the ability to organize and prioritize work schedule and have exceptional customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel required with ability to quickly learn other county software. Candidate should possess excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to read and speak fluent English.
Purpose
Enter all recorded real estate transfers for taxation and maintain Auditor's plat book.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Process recorded real estate transfers, public right of way acquisitions, and right of way variations.
Validate ownership and legal descriptions, complete transfer in tax records. Allow for and facilitate correction of errors before completing transfers.
Maintain Auditor's plat book. Update GIS (plat book) with all parcel splits, subdivisions, right of way acquisitions ·and vacations, and city annexations. Correct errors and omissions in the GIS representation of parcels, lots, subdivisions, surveys, corporate limits, right of way, map blocks, road and railroads.
Coordinate requests for division of land within the county. Assign and maintain records for parcel letter designations. Communicate split requirements to requester as required.
Calculate and enter tax credits and file with state. Process and run property tax books and statements. Process and prepare county valuations to be submitted to state.
Assist as assigned with election preparation and absentee voting, including election night hours and required Saturday office openings.
Assist as assigned with financial reporting and/or data entry relating to other duties of Auditor's office.
Customer service. Assist customers in the use of the Auditor's transfer books and the Auditor's plat books. Investigate and resolve problems or errors in data concerning property ownership or legal descriptions. Also assist customers with voter registration, voting and general county questions. Answer telephone.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience Required to perform Essential Functions
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
- Specific knowledge of a body of rules or operations for a particular functional area or areas such as might be acquired in one to three years of prior related experience.

Mental and Physical Competencies Required to Perform Essential Functions
Language Ability
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Cognitive Demands
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to multi-task.

Physical Demands
Typical office environment involving sitting, walking, occasional bending, lifting and carrying paper and books generally weighing up to 40 lbs. or less. Horizontal and vertical reaching motion is required. Aptitudes required are those typically associated with clerical operations including clerical, numerical and forms perception, clarity of vision 20" or less to view computer screens, legal documents and property description cards; eye/hand/foot coordination, hand and finger dexterity, motor coordination, hearing and conversation skills.
Environmental Adaptability
Work is performed in a typical office environment and has no unusual exposure to environmental issues.
Job Hours
Normal Business hours: 8:00AM-4:30PM
Also, assist as assigned with election preparation and absentee voting, including election night hours and required Saturday office openings.
